Let it never be said that Disney is not a force to be reckoned with. It is easily one of the most recognizable brands on the face of the earth with its mascot, Mickey Mouse, being one of the most famous characters in history. When Disneyland opened its doors in 1955, it quickly established itself as one of the most sought after destinations for families, especially children.
But what’s not as well known are the strict rules and regulations all Disneyland cast members must abide by. It’s not unusual for a huge employer to expect its staff to adhere to high standards, but some of the following are evidence of just how far cast members must go in order to keep pulling in a pay check.
We’ll start off with a fairly normal and somewhat understandable rule. Lots of jobs expect their staff to keep their nails trimmed at all times, mostly for hygiene purposes. But most employers have a bit of a loose idea of what they mean by “trimmed”. Chances are if you’ve worked in an environment like this, your boss never really stipulates exactly how short they need to be
At Disneyland however, both men and women have to abide by actual measurements to keep their fingernails at acceptable length. For men, this means not having them any longer than the end of their fingertip (so essentially, cut right down). For women it’s a bit more lenient. In order for them to maintain their Disney princess look, they are allowed to grow their nails a bit longer, but no more than a quarter of an inch past the fingertip. That’s quite an arbitrary length if you ask us. Also as you can imagine, nail polish is not allowed either.
